Here is my entry for the stamping challenge. We were to stamp a border or stamp background paper. I made a border with the XOXO stamp and a background with the grid stamp and then embossed it to make it show up more. The title says: "Look! They're Kissing!"Our kids think it is the best thing ever when they get to see us kiss. :)

Cupcakes are really popular lately. I decided to go with a covered journal for the cupcake theme challenge. I used the cupcake from the cricut cartridge Rock Princess, but cut off the arms and legs. The background paper is DCWV and the journal is a composition book. I embossed the cupcake paper with a dots folder.

I combined a couple challenges into making this page yesterday for (Inter)national Scrapbook Day. I wanted to do so much more, but life got in the way. So, here is the layout I made:

So, for the My Pink Stamper challenges, I made a scrapbook page (challenge #7). For the Big Picture Classes challenge, I took a detail pic of one the the things that prevented me from participating more....laundry. I had to get it done so my kids would have church clothes. As a personal challenge, I made an 8x8 page. I have only ever made 12x12 pages, except for theme and mini albums. (Oops...I just noticed the mistake I made in my red journaling and fixed it.)

Last week we got a new toy: a 27" iMac. Now when we use our MacBook Pro it looks like a baby :) I wanted to commemorate the exciting occasion by documenting our Apple babies. I only have my ipod in the pic, but we actually own 4 ipods now. We love our apples! (The apple sticker is one of those that comes packaged with the computer).

Cricut recently shared some discontinued cartridges with us and even included an exclusive to Gypsy cart, Smiley Cards. This means, however, that there is no handbook or even thumbnails to see what the final cuts will look like. Robin and Tammy were nice enough to cut out ALL the images so we can see them. Ribbon Storage

Over on the Creative Cutters Cricut Club blog they are discussing ribbon storage. Here are the three methods I use:

I mounted 3M hooks on the edges of my shelves and hung a dowel for my ribbons on spools. I wrapped rubber bands around the ends of the dowel so it wouldn't fall off the hooks. Next to that on the shelf is a green ribbon stuff bag by Your Pictured Memor EZ (I don't remember the name of the bag though). That is for all of my designer ribbons. The last place I store ribbon is on a large 3M hook on the wall. It is all of those big satiny ribbons and a few other wide ribbons.

The challenge was to make a critter. I designed a critter for a birthday card for my youngest. He is turning 5 soon and he loves Mario games. I used my cricut and gypsy and designed Toad. It was all just ovals and circles. The "?" block was genius...it was already like that on the Printing Press cart that I used for my least use cart project. I am really excited about how this card turned out!

MPS Challenge #11 - "Colors of the Rainbow"

I acquired a bunch of ribbon scraps awhile back before I realized that I don't use ribbon very often. It was a great way to get lots of color and texture in all colors of the rainbow. I also used a glue rub on and glitter. I love working with those rub ons!

This challenge was to make a monochromatic project. I ended up using a lot of blue in my projects today, so it's no wonder that I chose blue for this card. Something new I tried was making a flower out of crepe paper streamer. It was a perfect match to my paper, so how could I not give it a try!

MPS Challenge #7 - "Hey Dad!" (Dad, don't look!)

My Dad, like me, loves snacks and treats. I made him this box and will fill it with some goodies to give him as an early father's day present when we go up to visit. Did I say how much fun I have using my scoring board? Well, I do. It is so satisfying to fold a scored line. Seriously! :D One thing I learned on this project was that Thickers ABC letters don't stick very well to glitter paper. A little ATG did the trick, however!

This challenge was to use a cricut cartridge that I don't like or never use. For me it was Printing Press (which I ended up using twice tonight!) This is a vinyl cut for my white board. I learned a valuable lesson...always use the transfer tape. (If you look close you can see tears and wrinkles in the vinyl.) Oh well, it's just for me to look an and not anyone else. I can live with it!

I decided to try out the 12 challenges Robin, aka My Pink Stamper, posed this weekend for National Scrapbook day. The first theme was "Mother, dear, I love you so." My mom has always loved these photo boxes, and today I finally got around to making her one. I'm going up to visit her soon to help her organize her photos...we'll choose some photos together to put in here. Here it is:

The pages act as the walls of the box and the lid goes on top. Super fun project, especially now that I have a scoring board! (I have the Martha Stewart one and I'm loving it!!)

My Pink Stamper challenge: Cricut project in pink, green and black

I was feeling a need for some alone time today and this was the perfect opportunity for that. This project was my first time using layers and shadows on my cricut. I did this on the gypsy, so I was able to stretch the objects to fit the envelope size I wanted to use for the card. All of the items are from the Home Decor cart. Paper is Core'dinations, Bazill, Pink Paislee and Creative Memories.

10/1 Sketchy Thursday using my blog candy

I was lucky enough to win some yummy blog candy from Sketchy Thursday: the Cosmo Cricket paper crafting kits Mr. Campy and Jolly By Golly. In honor of winning that prize (which I received yesterday), I made one LO using each of the sets and this week's sketch.

Jolly by Golly is a super fun set. The border is from their border paper and the title from their elements sheet. The snowflake paper is called Silly Chilly. Even the names make me smile! I made the background paper by spraying Pink Angel glimmer mist over some Basic Grey holiday chipboard shapes. The chipboard turned out so glimmery cute that I decided to include these in the design too. Anyone know how to prevent the paper from bowing and not laying straight after the glimmer mist dries? My page isn't quite flat anymore. :) But the pictures still shine...even my youngest son who apparently hadn't caught the idea that snow is supposed to be fun.

This page was also inspired by the sketch, even though it has a very different look. I had this one photo that was printed by accident, and I saw these Mr. Campy borders and elements and knew I had a perfect match! The background paper totally goes along with the theme (take a hike), even though it has nothing to do with the pic. Practically no one here in Santa Fe has grass, so these three pieces of equipment were useless to us. We were glad to kick them to the curb! The only elements on this page not from the kit are the Bazzill scallop paper and the brad/eyelets. Great kit!

Two cards, same sketch

I didn't use someone else's sketch. I made the Trick or Treat card and then used the same sketch for the card I made with my new {stamps} of life stamps and paper.

The Trick or Treat stamp is Pink Paislee and embossed using CTMH black powder.

These stamps are all from the stamps of life September set. The pink circle flowers are done using watermark ink. The one is embossed as well as the sentiment being embossed. Can you tell I love that dotted circle stamp??

New stamps and monthly club

I just joined a new monthly stamp club called The {stamps} of Life. The stamps are only $11 + $1 shipping per month and they are super cute. It was started by Stephanie Barnard who I first was introduced to by watching the videos she made for the former stamp company called Inque Boutique. I sent her in a simple stamping idea that she used to make one of her last videos with them.

So fast forward to yesterday when I ordered her new stamps yesterday. Her policy is that you order and then she calls you personally to get your payment information. I was excited to tell her who I was and sure enough, she remembered me. And she mailed out my stamps the same day. She has some great customer service! I can't wait to start using her stamps!

Giraffes

Aren't giraffes funny creatures? I mean, check out that black tongue! I made the border on this page by cutting out the center of this DCWV green stack paper, and the tree branch is from the same stack. I made the paper flower using Donna Salazar's technique. I'm pretty proud of how I changed up the journaling card. It had the right words but it was the wrong color. I traced over the red on the card with a blue Sakura Souffle pen. It was a perfect match!

Halloween...then & now

I love finding photos we have taken that match photos from our youth. These photos were taken in the same doorway (with the same color costumes) of my husband as a child and then my oldest child his first year of really getting trick or treating. The title and haunted house I first dry embossed on this black magic core'dinations paper and then I sanded for the orange color to come through. I love this technique!

Places we go title page

I felt liberated when I discovered Stacy Julian and her Library of Memories system. Organizing pages by theme and not chronologically was a very freeing concept for me. I enjoy scrapping memories and little things more than big events. This was a perfect match! The categories I chose for the main albums are : People we love, Places we go, Things we do, and All about us. I made the title pages the same, just changing the colors, and tied them together by adding stripes of the other three colors on each page. Here is my Places we go title page:

The mini images are from my index prints. The title strip is a piece of black magic Core'dinations paper that I dry embossed with some old stencils and then sanded to let the color come through. The strips of brown, red, and green are scraps from the core'dinations paper I used for the title strips on the other pages.

2 Sisters

Once again, I journalled on Penzu. This time it was about my childhood memories of my sister. I was 9 when she went away to college and 11 when she got married, so I don't remember a lot about her. As I typed, I came up with quite a bit, and I wanted to remember all of these things about her. I came up with this mini book I attached to my page with elastic ribbon. It can be removed to be read without taking the whole page out of it's page protecter. I bound the pages with some gaffer tape. Those little letter stickers from Pink Paislee sure came in handy on this mini album--I labeled the top of each page with them. Most of the journaling is only interesting to me or my family, so this hidden journalling was the perfect solution.

No photo layout: Just a Note

I recently discovered an online journaling site, Penzu, where I'll occasionally write a long journal entry which isn't necessarily scrapworthy. I wrote this note about one of life's lessons: I'm not in charge of my life. Life is in God's hands. A lesson I learned when we were trying to grow our family and suffered loss through miscarriage a few times. I didn't feel like this entry required a photo, but it was something I decided needed to be preserved in an album.

The title comes from the Wild Card Cricut cart. The flowers I cut from an MME stack, I believe, and then I dry embossed them to give them dimension.

Blanket & One Happy Kid

It was with mixed feelings we celebrated Johnny giving up his blanket. It helped him in so many ways. But it was nice that he gave it up on his own. These two layouts feature different aspects of his blanket, and both include actual pieces of it. Brads and eyelets were the perfect tool for attaching the pieces. The first layout I went for a more subdued mood as I discussed how particular he was with his blanket. The second layout focuses on how happy he was with it, and hence it has a more fun mood to it.

Mini Me

I got this Pink Paislee transparency in the warehouse box I bought from PP. This is my first transparency and I love how easy this one made the layout. The paper, letter stickers, and brad are all PP. The flowers are prima, of course! Doesn't my daughter (on the bottom) look just like me as a child?

The flower and brad are attached on top of the transparency. Everything else is underneath.

Scrapbooks, Etc. adhesive challenge: It's All Good

The Scrapbooks, Etc. challenge was to use adhesives in new ways. I had a lot of fun playing with my adhesives trying to find new ways to use them. My favorites, obviously, were heat embossing with them. Here is what I came up with. First, a close up of all the embossing I did. I rubbed glue around the edge of my bracket paper to emboss and also embossed glue dots (the gold dots) and Kokuyo dot n roller. I also glittered a button.

This is the final product, about all the little things in life that make me happy!

And a couple detail shots showing how I painted glue over a template I made on my Cricut to make a mask...

...and then I inked over the mask to make my background paper and title.

Sketchy Thursdays: 9/17 sketch Cute & Crazy

Here is my interpretation of the 9/17 sketch on Sketchy Thursdays. I admit, that at first I was motivated by the giveaways for these sketches, but I'm having fun discovering inspiration through the sketches. For some reason this one took me all day and 3 tries to get a page I was happy with. First, the sketch:

I used rub-ons on the letters to help communicate the emotions I was going for. The ampersand was an interesting technique: I stuck a Pink Paislee glitter sticker on some white paper and decided against it, but when I removed it the bottom layer of the chipboard backing stuck to the paper. It looked too good to throw away, so I cut around the edges and sprayed with my new snow angel glimmer mist.

Moxie challenge

I did another challenge from the Moxie Fab World blog.

Create a paper crafted project (card, gift bag, tag, layout, home decor, etc.) that incorporates some kind of household item as its focal point. I chose a grungeboard key and lock. They are actually pretty gold and silver looking in person. I sprayed them with Glimmer Mist...a favorite product of mine. This is actually my first time using my sewing machine on my paper crafts. I've always loved the look but never dared try it. After stamping my image, I sewed and then added the doodling and ended with liquid glass over the image. Very cool effect!

Sketchy Thursdays: My Sweeties

I don't usually get into doing sketches, but this sketch from Sketchy Thursdays was absolutely perfect for a photo I had hanging out on my desk!

It is all from the Pink Paislee Sweet Cakes collection, except for the button embellishment I put together from various products I had on hand. This is the first time I ever took a photo to go with a piece of scrapbook paper I wanted to use! The journaling reads: "8.14.09 Our family est. 1998 Happy Birthday to us!"

Recycling containers

I recently bought some super cute prima flowers in this tin and decided the tin was too cute to go to waste, so here is my final product. I am currently using it to store a family photo puzzle my dad made for us. I'd consider that a treasure!

And yes, those are wings on the back. I wanted to try something a little different, aka, not flat on the tin. I think I accomplished it! :D

Sketch from Sisterhood of Scrap

I am not usually a sketch kind of scrapper, but I decided this one from Sisterhood of Scrap fit my needs perfectly. See, I did a scrapbook for my daughter a couple years back, but left the title page blank. I also skipped about 20 pages of journalling. I learned my lesson later and don't do that anymore! She was looking at her book this week and I noticed all the unfinished pages, so I decided to just finish the book. My style has changed completely since I made that book, so as I went through it, I didn't redo any pages, as tempted as I was, but I at least embellished a few. I didn't do any lumpy bumpy in that old album, so I had to restrain myself on that part (it is a strap hinge album and those are better for flat scrapping). I tried to stick basically to my old style in making this page. It is much "more" than I used to do, but still less than I do now. Nevertheless, the sketch was a great match! I may just have to try a few more sketches. I might just get hooked!

This is all about me and my love of most things green:

This was my first time using ghost letters, staples (I think), and sewing on a page. I used my nifty new cuttlebug piercing bugs to make the holes. It was a lot of fun!

Christmas Extras

This is from 2006, our last Christmas in Broken Bow, OK. The Grandma, Grandpa and Clayton came at the last minute and brought Laura and her children. They were our extra people and they brought extra presents. Courtney was the first asleep and got an extra present from Santa for that. The layout is simple, but I like it.

This uses Stella Ruby from Basic Grey...not a Christmas paper but the colors were perfect. I also used Glimmer Mist on the title blocks, and the flowers were glittered by rubbing them in the remnant of the glimmer mist on my splat mat. If you look closely, you'll see that the journaling goes around the outer edges.

Winter Wonderland

This layout was pretty simple so the photo could really be the star of the page. I used my cricut (Accent Essentials) to cut out the snowflakes and the title (Storybook, welded with Design Studio). This photo really speaks to me. I've had it printed out for a few months but just didn't know what to do with it, it's so beautiful.

Yet another Scrap Room kit. I had a lot of fun with rub ons on this page. Even the flower petals on the journaling box were the leftovers from the large flower on the tag. I also used some stamps. The letters are a CTMH alphabet. It was amazing how outlining the letters with white after stamping them reallllly made the title pop. I colored in some of the flowers with colored pencils. Loved that! This was one of those pages I just kept adding details to (like the white outline around the circle) until it finally felt complete.

Princess or All Star

Courtney is such a girl. She loves pink, will wear a dress instead of pants any day of the week and just loves anything girly. I wanted to make this page to remind her that there a lots of things she has done and she can do anything she puts her mind too.

This page was my first using brackets, paper clips, and pins. The circle was leftover from my Sleepover page and I challenged myself to use it on this page.

The paper I made when I was playing with my Whispers stamp pads. I also used liquid glass on a couple of the squares for textural interest. And if I can ever include prima flowers on a page I will!

Butaman and Whataman

Ben and Ryan already love playing superheroes, so when the chance came up for them to pose as brand new superheroes Ryan came up with...they jumped at the chance. So, with no further ado, here they are: Butaman and Whataman!

I used a monthly kit from the Scrap Room. On the journaling boxes and photos I also used the CTMH distressing tool.

I'm not sure I love how the "Introducing" sign ended up, but it is what it is. It is a very thick black chipboard. I used stickles for the writing and the dots and outline and it needed something else so I colored around the letters with my white Uniball signo pen. My favorite white pen! (Thanks Stacy!)

My Uncle was a mountain man. He loved indian crafts and was even adopted by the Oglala Lakota tribe. When he died, he had a very unique casket that he helped design. I tried to keep the colors simple on this to match the photos and let the colors show through.

This was my first time using magic mesh. It really is easy to use!

This was also my first time using grunge board. Love it! The stamping helped to fill in some dead space on the pages...I went a little crazy. Tip: when I stamped around the clear quote sticker, I covered the sticker with a post it note to keep the ink off.

Bunco

Now that school has started, I finally finished my page layout with the Bunco mesh that I made with the cricut software.

I hated to cover up too much of the mesh so I opted to smush all the photos on the second page. It is pretty simple, but it does the job.

The colors were hard to choose. I was going to use just brown, red, and white papers...but it looked too cowboy. I ended up choosing a turquoise textured background paper. As always I sanded the edges of the big pictures...it really just finishes the edges without extra paper to mat them. The dice are hexagons I punched out and drew on the details.

I love this girl's style!

On our trip to Las Vegas, Kyle and I tried sushi for the first time. Mark found out we had never tried it and insisted on treating us to the best sushi place in Las Vegas. We started out very simple, and then moved on to the more complicated sushi. This one was called New York girl in Las Vegas.
So why is this on my scrap blog, you may ask? My sister, true to form, made the observation that those orange fish eggs were just the right size and color for microbeads! (She's vegetarian so she had to find some way to enjoy the food we were eating in front of her...)

April Fool!

Our friend has his birthday on April 1st and we made him a dinner fit for a fool. Love ya, Gordon!

These pages use a monthly kit from the Scrap Room . I cased the way they used the paper cutting the scalloped edge and framing the journaling with the squares. The buttons on the scalloped edge really are a nice touch. The pic in the lower left hand corner is on pop dots and helps emphasize that he is the fool in question. I also used a CTMH paper distresser on the journaling box and inked with cat's eye chalk ink--one of my must have tools!

Eggs a la goldenrod

Last Easter, Kyle took these pictures at Mom's house of the process of making my favorite Easter breakfast. As I say in the journaling, Easter and this recipe go hand in hand. This food is best at Easter (because of the colors that seep through the egg shells) and my day isn't complete until I eat this food.

I used my Stamped cricut cartridge for the title. The paper and arrow and blue swirl are My Minds Eye from another Scrap Room kit. The flowers are primas, a love of mine. I used a Glaze pen to get a slightly embossed look to my hand drawn arrows from the ingredient names to their photo. The egg carton picture is popped off the page for emphasis. I do this a lot lately--times sure have changed from my days as a Creative Memories consulatant. My style has done a 180!

Cricut fun

I finally got a chance to play with my new Cricut software Design Studio. It lets me weld letters together and combine images from all of my different cartridges to make a new image. I had a lot of fun playing and made this Bunco mesh. Now I have to figure out how to use this in a scrapbook page...but it was a lot of fun making it!

Doing these year in review pages has been so nice. It helps take away the stress of "getting caught up." This time I used CTMH stamps to make the background images around the edges of the paper. I didn't use much product, but I feel like I still got a nice result.

The Princess and the Cave Man

Those kids just make me laugh. When we left them in Utah to go home to prepare for our move to Santa Fe, Grandma was willing to do anything to entertain them. Ben got out of the bath one day and with the towel wrapped around him, he felt like a cave man and asked for a costume. Not wanting Courtney to feel left out, Grandma let her design a costume too. After studying the kids' sketches, these are the costumes she came up with.

I used CTMH stamps for the titles and assorted stamps for the border on the large photo. It was an interesting process making that border. I stamped in clear to get a monochromatic look and then it looked kinda blah, so I colored it in with colored pencils. It made quite a difference!
